Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, March 15, 1936

To Mr. Joaquín Rodríguez Benítez, President of the National Federation of Puerto Rican Students:

To Mr. José R. Lebrón Velázquez, President of the National Federation of Students of the High School;

To all the Noble and Courageous Student Body of Puerto Rico:

The courageous and patriotic youth constitutes the sacred posterity of the Fatherland.

It is the reserve that must be cared for as the source of our eternal nationality.

It is the duty of adults to confront with courage and sacrifice all patriotic problems, especially when it is expected to offer life to make respect the existence and the Independence of the Nation. In these precise moments of our history, your parents are fulfilling their duty. Brave and self-sacrificing, they serve as shields for their children against the excesses of a despicable empire.

The youth should not abandon its classrooms. In its privileged forum, it must wait serenely and alert for the moment of fulfilling its patriotic duties.

Your organization instills terror in foreign despotism.

Keep it prepared and disciplined for the decisive hour.

El Mundo, March 16, 1936, p. 1 and 4.

With the respect and emotion inspired by your solid patriotic solidarity, I allow myself to advise you not to go on any strike.

In the classrooms, your power is omnipotent.

The most powerful and brutal of empires cannot violate, without serious consequences for its security, the sacred forum of the student body.

Trust in the adults: in your parents and in your older brothers. They will fulfill their duty in any situation that Yankee imperialism may want to present us with.

Do not rush into the fight. In the national moral restoration, adults cannot decline to the student body the fulfillment of any patriotic duty.

Remain serene and alert.

Let your motto be: Courage and Sacrifice.

P. ALBIZU CAMPOS.
