Proclamation on the anniversary of the revolution of Lares: 1935

To Lares, to the holy land of the Homeland, which guards the sacred ashes of the founders of the Republic, the nation concurs to render homage and to receive the inspiration of the valor and the sacrifice that the heroes of the Revolution embodied.

The independence of the Homeland and its personality as a free and sovereign nation was written with the noblest blood of all generations.

The National Pilgrimage goes to Lares to rescue the will and the valor that we must emulate to restore the Republic.

September 23 is the day of the heroes and martyrs of independence. Every Puerto Rican will vibrate, before the evocation of the heroic ephemeris, will feel free from foreign interventions, and will renew the vow to throw from the native soil the enemy power that seeks to hold national sovereignty.

Lares is the consecration of the nation to the armed revolution, the fixed trajectory of all free peoples.

The present generations must write their heroic page in the history of the Homeland. The manes of the liberators rise in Lares to offer us freedom and the sword to reconquer it.

Given in San Juan de Puerto Rico, on the nineteenth day of September of 1935, sixty-eighth year of the proclamation of the Republic.
